Make the Most of Dental Benefits Before the End of the Year

dental Insurance coverage formsAt the end of the year, we all have a lot to do, but if you haven’t scheduled your second dental checkup for the year, we’ve got one more thing for you to add to your to-do list. Most dental benefit plans will reset at the end of the year, so if you haven’t used your dental insurance coverage for two dental exams and teeth cleanings, you could miss out. In this post, we’ll discuss some of the reasons why it’s so important to take advantage of your dental insurance coverage in order to keep your smile whole and healthy for life.

How to Make the Most of Your Insurance Plan

Many of our patients ask us how they can make the most of their dental insurance benefits to offset the costs of their dental care. Our response may sound a little counterintuitive, but we recommend scheduling more frequent visits. Two dental checkups and professional teeth cleanings each year is the recommended minimum standard of care from the American Dental Association. When you visit our office every six months, we’re able to partner with you to prevent the majority of oral health concerns, and those we can’t stop are diagnosed in the earliest, most treatable stages. Best of all, dental insurance providers typically offer 80 to 100% coverage for two annual preventive dental visits, so you’ll have the lowest out of pocket costs.

End of Year Dental Plan Maximums

Most dental insurance plans reset at the end of the year. This means any benefits you haven’t utilized, you lose, so now’s the time to schedule that second dental exam and teeth cleaning if you haven’t already done so. In addition to resetting at the end of the year, dental insurance plans typically have annual coverage maximums. That means if you’ve already received several fillings, crowns, or more advanced dentistry services this year, you may want to plan to receive any other advanced treatments after the end of the year if at all possible.
